A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on August 2nd between Hock Lee Group and Beta Renewables to develop a feasibility study for a commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in Malaysia.
The MoU was announced by Agensi Inovasi Malaysia and is in line with the government’s vision for biomass owners to be involved in downstream high-value activities through forging smart partnerships, rather than selling their biomass resources as a commodity.
Suitable locations have been identified in the area of Bintulu, where the plant might become a catalyst for a biomass-based industry cluster to produce fuel, energy and bio-based chemicals.
