European Energy Research Alliance Bioenergy Joint Programme comprises four subprogrammes to assess and develop the research challenges and priorities that have been established for Bioenergy in the Technology Roadmap of the SET-Plan.
EERA Bioenergy latest newsletter provides with some interesting news and highlights in the field of bioenergy by addressing some important initiatives and projects such as:
- BIO_LIGWASTE project developing a multifunctional biorefinery from tree pruning and garden cleaning;
- WTE 2030 with the aim of contributig to Waste-to-Energy (WtE) in the development of circular economy;
- BECOOL, a Horizon 2020 project fostering the development of advanced biofuels from sustainable agricultural value chains, based on lignocellulosic biomass;
- an interregional partnership to develop competitive european value chains, involving experts of CENER (National Renewable Energy Centre), the Government of Navarra and ADItech Technology Corporation;
- ongoing FReSMe and MefCO2 bioenergy projects, both addressing the valorization of captured CO2.
Along with the launch of the 2018 Call for proposals by The Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) on the occasion of its fifth Info Day in Brussels, it is quite interesting to read a policy overview concerning the recent RED II agreement as well as the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) which came into force on 9 July 2018.
You may read the presentation of a 2016 study conducted by nova-Institute on behalf of the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) related to bioenergy & bioeconomy figures and a European Biomethane Map 2018 by Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) in collaboration with the European Biogas Association (EBA) providing details about biomethane plants across the EU.
Amongst the publications being reported, some reports by IRENA (“A Roadmap to 2050”, “Renewable Capacity Statistics 2018” and “Bioenergy from Finnish forests: Sustainable, efficient, modern use of wood”), a study from EU Joint Research Centre (“Biomass production, supply, uses and flows in the European Union: First results from an integrated assessment”) and a publication of EIP-AGRI named “EIP-AGRI Focus Group Sustainable mobilisation of forest biomass”.
